As NCR grew in size, the Hundred Point Club grew to several hundred members, far exceeding the capacity of Dayton’s hotels to accommodate them, so the annual get-together was moved to a tent city on a grassy field owned by NCR. NCR salesmen were supported by a flood of literature produced by the NCR head office. From the late 1880s, NCR began to mail product literature to tens of thousands of sale “prospects” (an NCR term). At first these pamphlets were single broadsheets, but later a magazine-style booklet called The Hustler was produced, which targeted specific merchants such as dry-goods stores or saloons.
