Even within LDCs, the proportion of unpaid family workers in the labour force varies from sector to sector, being particularly high in the agricultural sector. It is usually difficult to impute reliable values to the contribution of such workers to the family income, and hence their share in this income. Therefore many countries adopt the simpler procedure of collecting income data only for income recipients. In using such data it must be remembered that the income of income recipients includes the contribution of other members of the family or household.

5. As may be expected, home production for household consumption forms a high proportion (21 per cent) of household receipts in rural areas. However, this form of receipts is quite high (12 per cent) even in urban areas. 6. In the Indonesian case, the proportion of income received in nonmonetary form appears to be quite uniform for all income classes because the survey refers to urban areas of the country at a time when payment of a part of wages in kind was a standard practice for most urban workers.
