(10) When the curls have been placed they must not be disturbed by nets, cotton wool or ear protectors. 4 CURLING The curling process requires the co-ordination_ of hands, fingers and tools. Generally the tips of the fingers should be used with the body of the hands directed away from the head. This ensures that the work is not disturbed. Tail combs are used to divide and section the hair, and to position the hair strand on the fingers.

A method of roUering hair: (1) A hair section, no longer nor wider than the size of roller used, should be cleanly combed straight up from the head. (2) Place the hair points on the roller centre. Use both hands to maintain the hair angle and retain the hair points in position. (3) The roller is turned, locking the hair points against the roller. The hair and the roller should be evenly wound down to the head. Pulling the hair from side to side when winding should be avoided. (4) Place the wound roller centrally on the base from which the hair was taken.
