In this instance, the entire expression using the ternary operator simply evaluates to False and the string printed shows how each expression using the relational operators evaluates. Equality Operators Equality operators are used to test two operands for equality. Equality operators are one of the basic building blocks of programming logic. There are four equality operators in PHP. The equality and inequality operators test each operand's values to determine if they are equal or not. These are the most commonly used equality operators.

This statement uses two operators: one assignment operator and one arithmetic operator. The focus of the expression will, for now, be on the subtraction operator. What if 10 – 5; was vagrantly floating around within a program, alone, without being assigned to any particular variable? Wouldn't that cause an error? In fact it would not, because 10 - 5; is a completely legal construct within a PHP program! As long as the expression is a valid, complete statement, PHP will raise no exception, even to a meaningless expression like 10 - 5.

0 Integer 0 Null Null Object No variables assigned any values String Empty string "" or "0" Any other value in PHP, including resources, evaluates to True when cast as a Boolean. String Conversion Values are converted to strings following some simple rules. A string is evaluated as a numeric data type any time the string begins with numbers. php $my_answer = "41 is the answer to the problem" + 1; print("The answer is... > This snippet will output "The answer is... int(42)". If numeric data starts a string, PHP takes the numeric value and ignores the rest of the string.
