You can purchase meringue powder at baking supply stores or on our site. 3 tablespoons meringue powder for icing 1/4 cup water 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar, more or less Stir the meringue powder and water together until smooth. Add enough of the powdered sugar to obtain the desired consistency for spreading. Completely cover any leftovers.  For Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and sometimes Easter, we would break out Mom’s tired and true sugar cookie recipe and make sugar cookies. We would spread them with colored icing and sprinkle them with decorations, always colored sugar crystals or jimmies.

Cream the butter, sugar, and salt together with the paddle attachment of your mixer. Add the eggs one at a time, beating after each. Beat for five or six minutes or until the mixture is light and lemon-colored. Add the extracts. 2. Mix the flour and baking powder together in another bowl. Add the flour mixture to the sugar mixture along with the whipping cream. Mix until combined. Do not over mix. Refrigerate the dough for at least one hour. 3. Roll the dough to a thickness of 1/4-inch on a lightly floured countertop.

4. Make the glaze by mixing all ingredients together adding just enough milk to reach the desired consistency. Frost after the cookies have cooled.
